Hilton has announced that it will be constructing a 14 storey hotel at the corner of 7 Ave SE & 4 St SE, in the new East Village. This hotel will be a very welcome addition to the area… and will be located in a great spot, less than a block away from the C-Train.
April was another great month for all housing categories in Calgary. Single family home sales rose, and both apartment & townhouse condo sales are doing great. The overall market will continue to do well as long as total inventory doesn’t rise too quickly – if that happens and inventory sits for a long time on the market, usually prices will start to fall.
The US burger chain – Smashburger – from Denver, is expanding into Canada and will open it’s first Canadian store in Calgary. It should be open by the 1st week of May on 32 Ave NE.
Garth Brooks – who hasn’t toured very much since the late 1990′s – will perform at the Saddledome on July 12, 2012 as part of the Calgary Stampede’s 100th anniversary. This will no doubt be huge for anyone that is a fan!
March 2012 was a fantastic month for the MLS market in Calgary.
Single family sales rose 17% vs March 2011.
The condo market is also doing better now than a year ago.
The single family market is doing very well at the moment as long as inventory remains lower than average.
UFC 149 will take place July 21, 2012 at the Scotiabank Saddledome! The fight will also be on Pay-Per-View. and tickets for the event will be as much as $4,200! The fact that UFC is coming to Calgary is fantastic, because it will give the city international exposure.
Asgar Virji – from Lamborghini Vancouver, confirms that the dealership should be open in 2013 most likely somewhere in south Calgary. This continues to show how Calgary’s economy is growing with no signs of slowing down.
February 2012 saw more single family sales (a 10% increase from Feb 2011) & less condo sales (down almost 12% from Feb 2011). Currently the number of listings for sale are rising, and the sales are up a lot for single family homes vs Jan 2012. Condo sales are down compared to Jan 2012. The single family market is doing well, as long as there isn’t a flood of inventory for sale over the next 60 days or so.
The Guardian condo tower, located on 11 Ave SE – said to be Alberta’s tallest residential tower – had it’s opening day for sales on February 25th. Although it was very windy, cold, and snowing, people were lined up outside to be a part of this project. By the end of the day, The Guardian sold more than half of it’s inventory… which is excellent news and probably means this tower will go ahead with construction.
The Centre Street Bridge having a new LED lighting system installed – to improve the lighting of the four lion pavilions & to accentuate the architectural features on the bridge. This will look fantastic and I can’t wait to see it!
